Schloss Posenhofen is a castle located on the western banks of Lake Starnberg in the small town of Posenhofen, Bavaria, Germany. It was built in 1536, and over time, became the summer residence of the royal family of Bavaria.
In 1864, the castle was purchased by the parents of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi), who extensively renovated and expanded it to create a grand palace with a large park. The Empress loved the peaceful surroundings and often spent time there.
After her assassination in 1898, the castle passed hands several times and served as a convalescent home and a military hospital during World War II. It was eventually restored and opened to the public in 1955. Today, the castle is a popular tourist attraction and venue for cultural events.
